Davido, Dangote Spotlight Nigeria’s Creative, Industrial Power In New York

By Samuel Egbewole

Afrobeats star Davido and billionaire industrialist Aliko Dangote have taken Nigeria’s creative and industrial influence to one of the world’s biggest commercial stages, appearing together at New York’s Times Square as a giant digital billboard showcased the Dangote Petroleum Refinery.

Davido shared a video of the moment on social media, showing him standing beside Dangote beneath the billboard bearing the message: “Made in Nigeria. Built for the World.”

The display, which featured the Lagos-based refinery, forms part of publicity for the company’s public offer and placed one of Nigeria’s biggest industrial investments prominently at the heart of New York’s commercial district.

The encounter brought together two powerful aspects of Nigeria’s global profile — the international reach of Afrobeats and the country’s growing industrial ambitions.

Davido’s appearance also highlighted the influence of Nigerian artistes in taking the country’s culture, identity and creative output to audiences beyond Africa.

With a stated nameplate capacity of 700,000 barrels per day, the Dangote Petroleum Refinery is one of Nigeria’s largest industrial projects. Its appearance on the Times Square display put a Nigerian-built enterprise before a global audience at one of the world’s most recognisable advertising locations.

The refinery’s public offer is being promoted under the theme “The IPO for the People,” with details on the offer, prospectus, eligibility requirements, subscription process and approved participation channels provided on its official platform.

Prospective investors are advised to read the prospectus and obtain independent professional advice before making investment decisions. The offer platform also directs subscribers to use only approved channels for participation.

The Times Square appearance has generated interest online, with reactions focusing on the symbolism of Davido and Dangote appearing together while a major Nigerian industrial project was showcased in New York.

The moment has consequently offered a striking picture of Nigeria’s cultural reach and industrial investment sharing the same global stage.
