37 Niger Miners’ Deaths: APC Donates ₦52m To Families, Survivors

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has donated ₦52 million to survivors and families of the 37 miners who died while in the custody of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Niger State.

Niger State Governor, Umaru Bago, disclosed the donation on Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2026, when he received the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), led by its National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, during a condolence visit over the incident.

Bago expressed appreciation to the APC leadership for visiting the state and providing financial assistance to those affected by the deaths.

He said a state committee led by his Deputy Governor, Yakubu Garba, in collaboration with the Emir of Minna, Alhaji Farouk Umar-Bahago, would oversee the distribution of the funds to the intended beneficiaries.

Earlier, Yilwatda conveyed the condolences of the APC leadership to the Niger State Government and residents over the incident.

He described the development as a difficult period for the state, particularly against the backdrop of the security challenges it had recently experienced.

“This is not a good moment for the country, especially Niger State.”

“Recently, you’ve been bedevilled by so many challenges, especially security threats, but we can assure you that our hearts and prayers are with you.”

“For the affected families, may God strengthen and comfort them in this challenging period. All this will pass away,” he said.

Yilwatda said the party remained hopeful that evil would not prevail over the good of the people.

He also commended Bago for his handling of the incident and assured the governor of the APC’s continued support for his administration.

Following the meeting, Yilwatda led members of the NWC to the palace of the Emir of Minna for another condolence visit.

The Emir, Umar-Bahago, appreciated the APC leadership for the visit and the financial support provided to the affected families.
