Nigeria @66: Customs Reaffirms Commitment To Legitimate Trade, Economic Growth

By Samuel Egbewole

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has reaffirmed its commitment to facilitating legitimate trade, protecting the nation’s economic space and supporting efforts to strengthen the Nigerian economy as the country marks its 66th Independence Anniversary.

The Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adeniyi, gave the assurance in his Independence Day message to Nigerians, describing the anniversary as a reflection of the country’s resilience, growth and continued pursuit of a stronger and more prosperous nation.

Adeniyi said the Customs Service remained committed to supporting legitimate commercial activities across the country while protecting Nigeria’s economic interests.

“From our ports and borders to businesses and industries across the nation, the NCS remains committed to facilitating legitimate trade, protecting our economic space and supporting the growth of the Nigerian economy,” he said.

The Customs chief, on behalf of the officers and men of the service, felicitated with Nigerians on the 66th Independence Anniversary and wished the country continued prosperity.

In his Independence Day address, President Bola Tinubu said Nigeria’s economy grew by more than four per cent in 2026, with both the oil and non-oil sectors contributing to what he described as a period of stable growth.

Tinubu also said oil theft had declined and inflation had fallen substantially from its peak.

According to the President, Nigeria’s foreign reserves had been rebuilt while the foreign exchange market had stabilised.

He further said the country recorded its highest revenue from non-oil exports in 2025, exceeding $6 billion.

“This is real money being made by real Nigerian businesses,” Tinubu said.
