Adekanmbi Campaign Team Accuses APC Of Linking APM To Ibadan Violence Without Evidence

By Victoria Isaac

The Bimbo Adekanmbi Campaign Organisation has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State and its governorship candidate, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, of making unsubstantiated allegations against the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) over recent incidents of violence in Ibadan.

The campaign organisation’s Deputy Director of Media and Publicity, Moses Alao, made the allegation in a statement issued on Sunday, urging political parties to exercise restraint and allow security agencies to investigate the reported incidents without interference.

The response followed allegations linking APM supporters to a series of violent incidents in the state, including reported attacks involving Accord Party members and an alleged killing in Ibadan South-West Local Government Area.

The organisation specifically disputed claims that APM supporters were responsible for the alleged killing of a man identified as Ridwan, also known as Paul Moore. It faulted the claims for not providing the deceased’s surname or identifying anyone suspected of carrying out the act.

While expressing condolences over the death, the campaign organisation urged the APC and the Sharafadeen Alli Campaign Organisation (SSACO) to avoid statements that could heighten political tension or influence public perception before investigations were concluded.

The statement read in part: “We condemn, without equivocation, the allegations that supporters of the APM are responsible for foisting violence in Oyo State in recent times, including alleged attacks on one of Senator Alli’s countless Baby Mamas, Hon Folake Osinowo-Olunloyo and the Accord Party.”

It added: “While mourning the deceased and praying that God grants repose to his soul, we challenge SSACO to be responsible and sensible at this period so as not to heighten tension in our state and allow criminals to game the system by making all dastardly acts to look like politically-motivated.”

The organisation also called on the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Oyo State Police Command to caution political parties against making what it described as sensational and unsubstantiated accusations.

It argued that attributing criminal incidents to political motives without sufficient evidence could complicate security efforts by allowing offenders to exploit political divisions.

The campaign organisation further accused the APC and SSACO of repeatedly attempting to link Governor Seyi Makinde, Adekanmbi and the APM to controversies without substantiating their claims.

“We have witnessed the sickening trend by the APC and the Senator Sharafadeen Alli Campaign Organisation, whereby they shop for all sorts of lies to pin on Governor Makinde, Hon Adekanmbi and the APM,” the statement said.

It maintained that the APM, Makinde and Adekanmbi had no involvement in the reported violence, describing them as committed to peace. The organisation also referred to photographs and videos it said showed Accord Party members carrying axes at Molete, while presenting themselves as victims of violence.

The campaign team urged the APC and other political parties to allow security agencies to complete their investigations and make their findings public rather than engage in accusations that could inflame tensions.

It also accused the APC and SSACO of using online media platforms to promote one-sided accounts of political incidents and urged residents to verify claims before accepting them.

The statement concluded with an appeal for calm, insisting that allegations of political violence should be addressed through evidence-based investigations rather than public exchanges between rival campaign organisations.
