The Oyo State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the murder of 26-year-old Kehinde Asimiyu in the Olodo area of Ibadan, while reinforcing security in the community following unrest at a police outpost and subsequent threats by suspected hoodlums.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, the incident was reported to the police on November 1, 2026, after the deceased was allegedly stabbed with a broken bottle by one Taiwo Babarinde at Olodo Garage following an altercation between both men.

The deceased’s family reportedly became aware of the attack when an unidentified motorcycle rider arrived at their residence and informed them of what had happened.

Upon receiving the report, police operatives, accompanied by a patrol team, immediately proceeded to the scene, while the victim was rushed to Academy Hospital, Texaco, Iwo Road, Ibadan. However, the doctor on duty confirmed him dead.

His remains were subsequently deposited at Adejare Embalming Centre for preservation, while photographs were taken as part of the preliminary investigative procedures.

Following the police intervention and subsequent investigation, two suspects were arrested. They are Taiwo Babarinde, who is suspected of inflicting the fatal injury on the deceased, and Ishola Semiu, whose alleged involvement in the incident is also being investigated.

Both suspects remain in police custody, while the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Iyaganku, Ibadan, for a comprehensive investigation.

Meanwhile, the incident was followed by unrest at Olodo Police Outpost, which nearly resulted in a breakdown of law and order. Subsequent reports of threats by hoodlums further heightened security concerns, prompting the Command to immediately reinforce its presence in the area.

Consequently, additional operational assets were deployed, with personnel of the Nigerian Army, Amotekun Corps, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and other local law enforcement components joining the security operation.

The coordinated deployment has helped restore normalcy, according to the Command, while a sustained security presence has been maintained to prevent further disturbances and protect residents.

In a further move to address the situation and prevent a recurrence, the Commissioner of Police, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, psc, mnips, directed the Area Commander, Moniya, to engage relevant community stakeholders.

Acting on the directive, the Area Commander held a strategic meeting earlier on Tuesday with representatives of the Local Council Development Area (LCDA), leaders of tricycle and motorcycle operators, as well as youth leaders.

The engagement focused on identifying practical solutions to the situation, strengthening communication between community stakeholders and security agencies, and promoting peaceful coexistence among residents and other groups in the area.

The Command assured residents of Olodo and its environs that adequate security measures remain in place to safeguard lives and property. It also issued a stern warning to individuals or groups seeking to foment trouble, incite violence or exploit the situation to destabilise the area, stressing that such conduct would not be tolerated.

The Command further warned that anyone whose actions threaten public peace or undermine the security gains recorded across Oyo State would be dealt with decisively.

The Commissioner of Police urged residents to remain calm, shun violence and embrace dialogue as a means of resolving disagreements. He also encouraged community members to cooperate with security agencies by providing credible and timely information, while reaffirming the Command’s determination to sustain the prevailing peace and ensure the safety and security of all residents.
