Oyo/Osun Customs, Aseyin Strengthen Alliance Against Smuggling

The Aseyin of Iseyin Land, Oba Dr. Sefiu Olawale Adeyeri III, has pledged the continued support and cooperation of the Iseyin community to the Nigeria Customs Service, Oyo/Osun Area Command, in the fight against smuggling and other trans-border crimes.

According to a statement issued by the Command Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Customs I Abdulmalik Akintola, the monarch made the commitment on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, when he led his entourage on a courtesy visit to the Command.

The Aseyin was received by the Acting Customs Area Controller, Deputy Comptroller Wale Moses Adewole, and members of the Command’s management team.

Akintola said the monarch explained that the visit was to reciprocate the earlier courtesy visit paid to the Iseyin community by Adewole during his stakeholder engagements with traditional institutions across the Command.

The statement quoted Oba Adeyeri as commending Adewole’s efforts in revenue generation and anti-smuggling operations, while assuring the Command of the community’s continued cooperation towards achieving its operational objectives.

The monarch also pledged continued sensitisation of residents on the dangers of smuggling and other trans-border crimes.

He commended the Acting Controller for recognising the importance of traditional institutions, particularly his engagements with the Alaafin of Oyo, Soun of Ogbomoso, Iba of Kishi, Okere of Saki and Onigbeti of Igbeti, among others.

The Aseyin further appreciated Adewole’s efforts to strengthen relationships with critical stakeholders and community leaders across the Command.

Responding, Adewole expressed appreciation to the monarch and his entourage for the visit, describing the gesture as significant to the Command’s relationship with traditional institutions.

According to Akintola, Adewole noted that the Aseyin was the first traditional ruler to pay a courtesy visit to the Command since his assumption of office as Acting Customs Area Controller.

The Acting Controller reaffirmed his commitment to sustaining cordial relations and collaboration with traditional institutions and other critical stakeholders within the Command’s area of responsibility.

The visit underscored the importance of stronger community–Customs relations in promoting voluntary compliance, curbing smuggling, enhancing security and supporting the broader mandate of the Nigeria Customs Service.
