‘Stop Spreading Falsehood’: APM Fires Back At Alli Over Billboard Vandalism Allegation

By Victoria Isaac

The Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM) in Oyo State has pushed back against allegations linking its governorship candidate, Bimbo Adekanmbi, to the reported vandalism of All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign billboards in Ibadan, accusing Senator Sharafadeen Alli’s camp of making unfounded claims against the party.

‎The APM said it had nothing to do with the alleged destruction of the billboards and urged the APC to stop associating Adekanmbi with violence without evidence.

‎In a statement dated October 14, 2026, the APM Governorship Campaign Council’s Director of Communication and Spokesperson, Yinka Oladoyinbo, faulted the accusations, describing them as part of what the party called a recurring pattern of false allegations by the APC and its governorship candidate.

‎“The APM Governorship Campaign Council in the state says unequivocally that it has nothing to do with whatever happens to the campaign materials of the APC, and should not be dragged into such if it ever happened,” the statement said.

‎The response followed an allegation by the Senator Sharafadeen Alli Campaign Organisation that supporters of Adekanmbi had vandalised billboards featuring Alli and his running mate, Hon. Soji Adedeji, in Mokola, Sango, Monatan-Olodo Road, Odo-Ona and the Toll Gate–Iwo Road section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, among other locations.

‎The APM rejected the accusation, insisting that Adekanmbi had no record of involvement in the destruction of other people’s property. It also challenged the APC to focus on presenting its policies and programmes to voters rather than making allegations against its opponents.

‎The council further recalled previous disputes involving the two political camps, including claims by the APC that APM members were behind attacks on some of its leaders. It dismissed those claims as unfounded.

‎The APM also disputed an allegation it attributed to the Alli campaign organisation concerning a diphtheria outbreak in Oyo State, describing it as another attempt to mislead the public. The statement did not provide supporting details for its counterclaims.

‎Defending Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration, the party said the state had experienced peaceful coexistence and development over the past 7 years, arguing that continuity would help sustain the progress it attributed to the government.

‎Rather than allow the accusations to escalate, the APM called on security agencies to investigate the reported billboard vandalism, establish the authenticity of the allegation and identify those responsible if the incident is confirmed.

‎It also urged its members to remain peaceful and continue their political activities without fear, expressing confidence in security agencies’ ability to protect lives and property.

‎The billboard dispute has added to the political exchanges surrounding the 2027 governorship contest. While the APC campaign organisation has accused Adekanmbi’s supporters of vandalism, the APM has denied involvement and called for an investigation.
