Toluwanisings’ Burial Dispute: Oyo Police Secure Peace Pact, Parties Agree To End Public Exchanges

By Victoria Isaac

The Oyo State Police Command has brokered a peace agreement between the family, wife, friends and associates of late singer Olayemi Bayonle Bolaji, popularly known as Toluwanisings, following disagreements over his burial arrangements that had spilled into public exchanges and generated tensions.

The agreement, reached on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at the Command Headquarters in Eleyele, Ibadan, requires all parties to maintain peace, refrain from actions capable of escalating the dispute and discontinue public comments, interviews and publications relating to the matter.

The intervention followed information received by the Commissioner of Police, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, psc, mnips, on October 28 concerning disagreements between the deceased’s family and associates over the proposed burial arrangements. The dispute had reportedly triggered allegations of conspiracy and defamation, alongside exchanges across various public communication platforms.

Concerned about the potential consequences for public order, the Commissioner directed that the parties be invited to the Command Headquarters for an intervention aimed at preventing further escalation and facilitating an amicable resolution.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the deceased’s wife, Mrs Olayemi Elizabeth Damilola; his father, Mr Muniru Olayemi; friends and associates, including Oyindamola Esther, Babadunni Gbolabo and Comrade Lawal Ademola Rafiu; as well as his personal assistant and other representatives, signed a peace undertaking before the Commissioner.

Under the agreement, the parties pledged to be of good behaviour and avoid any conduct capable of causing a breach of the peace. They also agreed to stop public exchanges, interviews and discussions that could inflame tensions or aggravate the disagreement surrounding the singer’s death and burial arrangements.

The undertaking further prohibits the parties from circulating allegations, narratives or publications about the matter through social media, print media, radio, blogs and other communication channels. The restriction also extends to their proxies, agents, associates and representatives.

They equally agreed not to grant interviews, provide access or facilitate engagements with individuals and media platforms for the purpose of further disseminating such accounts. Each party is also expected to caution their associates and representatives against sponsoring, amplifying or circulating content capable of undermining the agreement.

While reinforcing the terms of the undertaking, CP Olugbenga warned that all parties must comply with the agreement, including their proxies and associates. He cautioned against exploiting the circumstances surrounding the singer’s death to instigate hostility, promote unsubstantiated allegations or engage in acts capable of disrupting public peace.

The police commissioner further warned that anyone whose actions amount to an offence under applicable laws would be arrested and prosecuted.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2026, the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, urged members of the public, bloggers and media practitioners to exercise restraint and avoid amplifying unverified information capable of reigniting tensions.

The Command stressed that any conduct independently amounting to a criminal offence would be addressed in accordance with the law, while urging all concerned to honour their commitments and allow the matter to be resolved through peaceful and lawful means.

It reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property, preventing crime and maintaining peace and public order across Oyo State.
