Iran Proposes 7-Day Plan To Reopen Strait Of Hormuz

Iran has presented the United States with a plan to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said.

Araghchi told U.S. reporters on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly he had proposed a seven-day plan.

He stated, “We have introduced a plan to the United States through the intermediaries that if certain conditions are met, the Strait of Hormuz would be open at the end of the seventh day and talks would restart”.

He declined to elaborate on the conditions but said they were “nothing more” than what the two countries agreed to in June.

The proposal had been delivered to the US through a mediator, the New York Times and CNN reported.

A White House official told CNN they were having “positive and constructive discussions through the mediators.”

Representatives of the U.S. and Iran held talks on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly on Tuesday, the first such negotiations in months.

Iranian state media reported that Araghchi had communicated Tehran’s conditions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz.

This also includes the immediate lifting of the U.S. naval blockade off the Iranian coast, the release of all frozen Iranian assets and an end to the war on all fronts.

The war has increasingly appeared deadlocked

Control of the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial route for global oil and liquefied natural gas shipments, remains one of the central disputes between Washington and Tehran.
