The Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), Oyo State Chapter, has empowered wives of serving police officers and members of the Late Police Wives Association (LAPOWA) as part of efforts to strengthen their livelihoods and improve the welfare of police families.

The empowerment programme, held in Oyo State, featured the distribution of 112 items, including freezers, sewing machines, grinding machines, gas cylinders, dryers, straighteners, and bags of rice.

The beneficiaries also received cash assistance, with 20 members supported financially to strengthen their businesses and livelihood activities.

Speaking at the programme, the Chairperson of POWA, Oyo State Chapter, Mrs. Bukola Abimbola, appreciated the National Chairperson of POWA, Alhaja Mutiat Disu, for her support and commitment to the initiative’s success.

Abimbola said the intervention was designed to give beneficiaries practical means of improving their businesses, increasing their income and contributing to the economic stability of their families.

She stressed that supporting police families remained essential to strengthening the home front and promoting the welfare of police personnel.

The initiative, she added, aligns with the welfare-focused vision of the Inspector-General of Police, particularly in supporting serving personnel, their families and the wider police community.

The event also featured representatives of wives’ associations from other security and law enforcement agencies, including the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA), Customs Officers’ Wives Association (COWA) and the Nigeria Immigration Service.

Addressing the beneficiaries, the Oyo State Commissioner of Police urged them to make judicious use of the items and financial support, particularly by investing them in their businesses and improving the welfare of their families.

He noted that a strong family support system contributes to improved morale, welfare and effective service delivery among police personnel.

The beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the leadership of POWA, particularly the national and state chairpersons, describing the intervention as timely and valuable to their livelihoods.

The programme further underscores POWA Oyo State Chapter’s commitment to strengthening police families through economic empowerment and welfare support.
