Magaji Dikko, Superintendent of Customs and Zonal Public Relations Officer, Zone B Headquarters, Kaduna, said Abe’s retirement marked the end of an impactful career, describing the retired officer as a “gentle giant” whose legacy was built on integrity, humility and selfless service. He said Abe distinguished himself as a leader who understood that authority was not about status, but about serving and empowering others. According to him, Abe maintained an open-door policy that gave officers across all ranks access to his guidance, counsel and support. He said the retired deputy comptroller general treated every officer with dignity, regardless of rank, and ensured they left his office encouraged. Dikko said Abe’s humility was reflected in his interactions with colleagues, describing him as a leader who earned respect through consistent acts of kindness. He said courage, sacrifice and discipline were not merely qualities Abe preached, but principles he demonstrated throughout his career. According to him, Abe’s academic excellence and intellectual rigour distinguished him, while his humility enabled him to connect effectively with colleagues. Dikko said Abe’s career demonstrated that discipline and intellectual excellence could coexist with compassion and a strong commitment to service. He said Abe’s reputation for fairness and trustworthiness earned him the confidence and respect of colleagues across the Customs Service. Dikko said Abe’s greatest contribution was his investment in people, particularly through mentoring, guiding and developing officers under his leadership. He said the retired officer had helped shape human capital that would continue to strengthen the service beyond his retirement. “Above all, he was a man who always put people first,” Dikko said, adding that Abe nurtured potential and built character. He said the bonds forged during Abe’s 35 years of service would continue to inspire officers and preserve his legacy within the NCS. Dikko congratulated Abe on his retirement, wishing him peace, fulfilment and happiness in the next chapter of his life. He said the Customs Service remained better for Abe’s contributions and expressed appreciation for his years of dedicated and exemplary service.
