Latest NewsMaritime Oyo/Osun Customs Revenue Rises To ₦65.66bn In 8 Months …Records ₦8bn increase, 13.88% growth over 2025 figure By Business Monitor September 19, 20261191 views ShareTweet 0 By Victoria Isaac The Oyo/Osun Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) generated ₦65.66 billion in revenue between January and August 2026, representing an increase of about ₦8 billion over the ₦57.66 billion collected during the corresponding period in 2025. The figure represents a 13.88 per cent year-on-year increase, reflecting the Command’s improved revenue performance within the first eight months of the year. The Acting Customs Area Controller, Deputy Comptroller Wale Moses Adewole, disclosed this on Thursday, September 17, 2026, during a press briefing at the Command’s operational headquarters in Ibadan. Adewole said the Command generated ₦65,661,343,026.94 from January to August 2026, compared with ₦57,656,161,990.24 recorded during the same period in 2025. The increase translates to an additional ₦8,005,181,036.70 generated within the period under review. The Acting Controller attributed the performance to the commitment of officers and men of the Command, alongside sustained efforts in revenue collection, compliance, trade facilitation and anti-smuggling operations. He acknowledged the contribution of personnel to the achievement, stressing that the revenue performance was the result of collective effort across the Command. The revenue performance was recorded alongside the Command’s continued enforcement activities and efforts to improve compliance among stakeholders operating within its area of responsibility. The approach is aimed at ensuring that revenue obligations are met while legitimate commercial activities are allowed to thrive. Adewole also stressed the importance of the Command’s officers in sustaining the momentum, noting that the performance recorded within the period reflected the collective efforts of personnel across its operations. He said the Command would continue to strengthen its strategies towards improving revenue collection while carrying out its statutory responsibilities. In an interview with newsmen, Adewole also highlighted the importance of collaboration with sister security agencies to the Command’s operations, describing the relationship among the agencies as cordial and productive. He said regular engagements and information sharing had strengthened joint efforts in tackling smuggling and other activities capable of undermining legitimate trade and national security. The Acting Controller, however, noted that operational challenges remained, particularly with the number of vehicles currently in the Command’s custody. He disclosed that several seized vehicles were still being kept within the Command’s facilities, creating pressure on the available space for their storage. Adewole also spoke on challenges affecting movement through some border routes, explaining that where roads remained inaccessible, legitimate cross-border processes, including the payment of duties, could not take place. He assured stakeholders that the Command would continue to pursue its revenue mandate while facilitating legitimate trade and strengthening enforcement against activities that violate Customs regulations. The Command’s performance between January and August 2026 comes as it continues to combine revenue mobilisation with anti-smuggling operations and stakeholder engagement within its area of responsibility.
