Oyo Police Nab 6 Over Alleged €8,900 Counterfeit Euro Deal, Recover 89 Fake €100 Notes

The Oyo State Police Command has arrested six suspects in connection with the alleged possession, circulation and production of counterfeit Euro currency, recovering 89 suspected fake €100 notes with a total face value of €8,900.

The suspects were apprehended following a patrol operation by operatives of the Command around the Labo–Wesley area of Oyo State on Tuesday, September 1, 2026.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, on Thursday, the operatives, who were on township patrol at about 7:30 p.m., intercepted three men travelling on a motorcycle.

A search of the occupants led to the discovery of the suspected counterfeit currency.

The suspects were identified as Tijani Saheed, 50, who was allegedly found with the notes; Oni Oladapo, 67, who is alleged to have supplied the currency; Adebayo Saheed, 52; and Hammed Karemu, 25, the motorcycle rider.

The Command said further investigation into the circumstances surrounding the involvement of each of the four suspects led operatives to the location where the suspected counterfeit notes were allegedly purchased.

A forensic search of the premises reportedly uncovered exhibits suspected to have been used in producing the fake currency and led to the arrest of the alleged producer, bringing the number of suspects in custody to six.

The Police said the suspects confessed during investigation and are currently assisting operatives with inquiries into the case.

The Command said the suspects would be charged to court for prosecution in accordance with the law after the investigation is concluded.

The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, commended the operatives for their vigilance and professionalism.

He assured residents and legitimate businesses of the Command’s continued efforts to disrupt criminal networks and tackle economic and financial crimes across the state.
